This week was a busy one. I've been working on a design project for a fabulous new client in Philadelphia, and my husband and I began to tackle some serious landscape work on our property. Him, mostly. But, I helped quite a bit on select projects. I think the forgotten corners of our property were on their way to resemble Grey Gardens-- with vines growing everywhere, trees competing with eachother for every square inch of sunlight. Totally overgrown and out of control. Since we just moved in this winter, this was our first chance to wrangle the madness.
The honeysuckle and surrounding maple trees were about to swallow this street light (you couldn't see the street light when we started hacking away). This is also where the neighborhood kids cross the street for school in the mornings, and it was basically a jungle. Never got a 'before' picture here... but this shot above is a 'during' shot.
Only a fraction of the maple tree limbs we removed from one tree. Our nextdoor neighbors were thrilled to see these branches removed from a tree that was hiding half of their property.
When we were finished, we had one smoking hedge trimmer, and the chain dislodged from our chainsaw.
Earlier this week, we also transplanted hostas and ferns. They were previously residing in a portion of the lawn that we needed to demolish for other reasons. So, they got a new home...
My husband showing off one of the lucky ferns.
Here is where they ended up. The shade garden looks much fuller now... and I think the ferns and hostas will be happier here.
