Serena & Lily KIDSHOP

I just stumbled upon something, so I thought I would pass it along.  Please take a minute to soak up all the preciousness that is the Serena & Lily KIDSHOP catalog...

I don't know if I've seen a better "baby & kids" catalog!  The rooms are adorable and the products are even better.  If you've got a nursery in the works, or a little niece or nephew that needs to be showered with gifts, check out the Serena & Lily KIDSHOP catalog HERE.  It's beautiful, easy to shop, and in true Serena & Lily fashion, there will be plenty to see.  :)

New Fabric Collection: LuLu DK CHILD

Did you see the new collaboration between F. Schumacher and Lulu deKwiatkowski?  The marketing material reads, "Lulu DK, For the Sophisticated Child" (which is so cute, isn't it?).  And I've gotta say, even though these fabrics are really fun and playful, they're pretty sophisticated too.  Take a look for yourself...

(elephant and monkey dressed in Skittles)

My favorite FAVORITE part of the collection are the flat trims.  I'm so in love with every colorway (and the fact that they're 3.5" wide!!!)...

I love the way this trim looks on the leading edge of these drapery panels-- so fun.

To see the entire Lulu DK CHILD collection, hop on over to the F.Schumacher website.

A Soothing Nursery

My sister, Alyssa, and her wonderful husband are pregnant with their first child.  And, it's a boy!  She's due in June.  We're SO excited to meet the little guy, and we can't wait to fill our roles as "Aunt Kelly & Uncle Dave".  When Alyssa asked me to help her with the nursery (wait-- did she actually ask me?  Or, did I just barge in and offer to help?  I can't remember exactly how it happened, but how could I resist this???  I MUST be involved, she can't stop me)....  So, Alyssa pretty much begged me to help her with the design of the nursery, and I said, "Really, are you sure? I would love to help!  I have so many ideas!  Let's get started."  Yes, that's how it happened.

Alyssa lives in Florida, so most of our ideas will be exchanged via email and text message.  Sort of an e-design of sorts.  Alyssa had one specific request: no bright over-saturated colors, the nursery should feel soft and soothing.  It should be a safe place for the baby to grow and learn.  We agreed on using a muted color palette, with accents of soft color.  Tiny, unexpected details and a mix of texture will keep the room interesting and sophisticated.  Then, as he grows, the predominately neutral scheme will allow the space to evolve.

These images served as some healthy inspiration when coming up with the design...

Little Girls Room

One of my design clients recently moved her family from Manhattan to San Francisco.  And as you can imagine, the big move came with a huge upgrade in livable space.  This family went from living in a modern 3-bedroom apartment to a stunning 3-story historic home.  They now have a yard, and plenty of windows that let oodles of natural light into every room (the house also has original milk glass fixtures, inlaid hardwood floors, and a butler's pantry with floor to ceiling cabinets!!  To die for.).

Over the past eight months, we've been furnishing the house together, room by room.  And just this weekend, I worked on the design of her daughter's room!  Inspired by these dreamy inspiration shots, I wanted to create a space that was light and bright, imaginative, and a little bohemian (they're living in San Francisco, after all).  It needed a healthy dose of pink and purple (the 4-year old resident's favorite colors), mixed with simple neutrals like white and grey.

And, here's what I came up with:

I love the balance between the modern white furniture and the girly tufted side chair.  Adding some eclectic pieces (like the rug, pillow, and pom pom throw) create additional interest, and they kick things up a notch.  I think that this space will easily transition from "4-year old" to "14 year old".

resources:
Bedding by Serena & Lily, pom pom throw from Calypso St. Barth, West Elm headboard, Madeline Weinrib rug and throw pillow, West Elm Parsons bookcase, reading chair from Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams, Crate & Barrel nightstand, and woven storage baskets (for toys and blankets!) from West Elm.

Groundworks Print: Twister

I've had this Groundworks print in my stash for a few months now.  I LOVE it so much and think that it's absolutely perfect for a kids room.  I had it made into crib pillows for this year's Vintage Baby Sale and they quickly sold out.  So, maybe you all love it too?!

Even though it's named "Twister" (right foot on red!) doesn't it remind you on an artist's palette?  The colors are so saturated, it almost looks like it was painted in watercolor.  I love this fabric.

Mountain Cabin Chic

Did you guys see this house in the recent issue of Elle Decor?  It's fabulous isn't it?  This "cabin" tucked away in the Idaho mountains was designed by the homeowner and built by ForestStudio, a Laguna Beach based architecture firm (yay for my hometown!).  I love the mix of modern, woodsy, and European elements (those ceilings!)...

The homeowner that designed this beauty is Mary Lynn Turner.  She teamed up with her two very accomplished and stylish daughters, Marie and Emily.  Marie has a masters degree from Christies of London in fine and decorative arts.  While Emily went to the London School of Economics.  The three have teamed up to create M. Elle Design, and their portfolio is stunning.  I encourage you to check it out.

Happy Thursday!

Gliders & Rockers

While we're on the subject of stylish kids rooms, let's talk about gliders and rockers.  One of my favorite resources is Fawn & Forest.  They have a wide selection of super stylish (and functional) pieces, plus they offer free shipping for orders over $50.00 and no sales tax!  A great bonus, right?

I have recommended a few of these styles for previous clients and I'm thrilled with the grown-up vibe they bring to the room.  Plus, they come in a variety of colors (some with accent piping!) so they even look custom made!  Then, when your little one outgrows the nursery, you can still use these chairs as functioning pieces of furniture (bottom line: they don't scream BABY).

Here are my top picks:

And, while you're there, Fawn & Forest has a great selection of graphic area rugs... not just for kids. ;)

Happy Wednesday!

UPDATE: I love blogging about kids rooms, kids parties, kids furniture, etc, because it's so fun-- not because I'm pregnant!  Sorry to disappoint!  But, please.  You've seen my house.  It's not safe for babies... yet.
