Happy Weekend!

Happy Weekend, loves!

Do you have any exciting plans for the weekend?  I will be attending a lovely baby shower tomorrow afternoon, and from there I'm heading to upstate New York for a long overdue visit with my husband's terrific family.  I can't wait to see the lake.

Also, I thought about catching the new flick Eat, Pray, Love.  I never read the book, but I'm thinking that I need some good "me" time, some quality crying, and plenty of smiling.  Plus, I want to live vicariously through the adventures of Elizabeth Gilbert.  What about you, will you see the movie?

See ya Monday!

Day Tripper

Washington Square Park

Yesterday, I took a day trip to New York City.  One of my dearest friends (of 18 years) will be attending Fordham next year to get his PhD, so we took the day to celebrate and do a little exploring.

We spent most of the afternoon in the West Village, enjoyed cupcakes at the famous Magnolia Bakery, and strolled around Washington Square Park.  Afterwards, we ran up to ABC Carpet & Home to browse the eye candy, and we ended the day with a delicious dinner at Inside Park at St. Bart's (a yummy restaurant set within a converted church, right next to the Waldorf Astoria).  Like an idiot, I brought my camera without the memory card.  So, please enjoy these snapshots from my iPhone...

The Clear Switch: Forbes & Lomax

We need to have our entire house rewired sometime within the next year ("within the next year" is code for: whenever we can afford the huge price tag of rewiring our whole house).  We have knob & tube wiring throughout, and I have proof.  Remember this?  Anyway, since I have severely unrealistic expectations (I bought this house, didn't I?) and expensive taste, these Forbes & Lomax switches are HIGH on the new electrical wishlist.  Oh sure, they're pricey...  but, what the hell?  Just throw it in with the price of the new electrical.

Ok, let's get to it.  Forbes & Lomax is a company based in London.  They reproduce light switches-- inspired by the fabulous designs of the 1930s-- in finishes like unlaquered brass (my fave), nickel silver, antique bronze, and stainless steel.  Their products feature a clear acrylic backplate (with no screws in sight!), that allow the wallpaper or painted wall to show through!  Thus, further showcasing the adorable toggle switch.  I mean, did you ever think that you could feel this way about a light switch?

They even have dimmers...

Maybe upstairs, we'll go with the antique bronze?

Or, the unlacquered brass?

They were also used in Carrie & Big's apartment in Sex & The City 2.  See it there in the background?

It's all about the details, people.

Happy Hump Day!

Thank You, Re-Nest!

Thank you, Re-Nest, for naming High Street Market as one of your Favorite Vintage Home Stores on Etsy for 2010.  I am so proud to be included on this list.  My shop is a major labor of love, and I'm thrilled that other people like it as much as I do.  :)

Thank you!

Lonny Love, Aug/Sept

chiswick home of cath kidston

The new issue of Lonny was released today!  Did you see it?  I devoured the entire thing.

I think that Cath Kidston's home in Chiswick (a suburb of west London), was my favorite.  It seemed so fresh and really, friendly.  She has a unique ability to combine her love of colorful florals, with modern elements and antique pieces...
