Jewelry Display

I did some online shopping over the weekend, and bought myself this awesome bracelet.  I can't wait for it to arrive.

And as I anxiously wait, I am rethinking jewelry display.  I'm the girl that likes to display everything where she can see it-- bracelets on trays, necklaces spilling into porcelain bowls, rings stacked on top of eachother.  You get the idea.

But, when I saw this amazing jewelry cabinet in Victoria Thompson's apartment, I immediately wanted one (Victoria found hers on Ebay).  I just love the idea of everything being put away.  Safely, in a beautiful piece of furniture.  Plus, with a piece this large...  I get to fill it!

Victoria's sister, Antonia, uses a gorgeous orange jewelry box...

Other beatuiful images of stored jewelry...

Victoria found her's on Ebay, and if you are interested, try searching "jewelry armoire" or "jewelry dresser" or "jewelry cabinet"... you might find something good!

Belgian Influence

This 1744 Connecticut home, featured in the current issue of Lonny, has been redesigned with a Belgian influence.  Situated on 8.5 acres, this antique country house was a far departure from apartment living in New York City, the homeowners previous home.  Both are art directors in the advertising industry and they own their own design firm, Voth Barrall Design, which designed recent campaigns for Kravet and Lee Jofa.  It's no surprise that the fabric houses helped inspire them in their own home... couple that with a love for Belgian simplicity and you have a completely unique Connecticut farmhouse with modern European flair.

I have been thinking about those dueling hurricanes (on the living room coffee table) all weekend.  Must get myself a pair someday...

Happy Weekend!

Have a wonderful weekend, my friends!  Our plans involve unpacking (even more) moving boxes, buying a new desk and desk chair (for me!)... and celebrating Valentine's Day with dinner at home (and the best angel food cake in the universe).

Oh, and digging our cars out of five feet of snow.  Enjoy the weekend!

Organizing The Kitchen With IKEA

(so much storage space!)

Moving into the 40 year old kitchen (in my 118 year old house) wasn't exactly a dream come true.  Most of my kitchen stuff will be regulated to large Rubbermaid bins in the basement...  but the stuff that we use everyday will need to stay up here, and somehow find a place to sit.  The only space that will fit our dishes and glassware is in the original dumbwaiter-- a cabinet contraption that would bring stored food from the basement into the kitchen via a pulley system.  Well, nowadays that pulley system is fixed, but the old dumb waiter remains and it is holding our glassware and everyday dishes.  Not ideal.  But, we will renovate someday...  and, we will hopefully have a bit more kitchen space!

Anyway, in desperation I have turned to my favorite discount home store.  Ikea.  They have a wonderful selection of kitchen storage for people like me...

These shelf stackers have been a life saver for me.  I've got about five in the dumbwaiter (to separate large plates from small, etc) and three in the refrigerator (to stack smaller jars without wasting the space).  They are awesome.  Powder coated white too...  very cute.

Here are some of my other kitchen organizing picks...

(what a lovely way to keep snacks fresh without displaying the boxes they come in)

These clear acrylic bins and trays are perfect for an office or studio!  But, they can be found within the kitchen organizing section at Ikea.  I would use them to hold cards, labels, stamps, etc...  and once we finish unpacking boxes, I will be buying a few (they are $4.99 and $6.99 each!)...

Snowed In!

I am living through my first east coast blizzard.

As if the two feet of snow on Saturday wasn't enough, another two feet is falling as I type!  This is all fine and good for a girl who works from home (thankfully!)...  just as long as our power stays on, Direct TV keeps on delivering great television (I need to catch up on my Bravo...  are you guys watching Kell On Earth?) and the 100 year old radiators keep working, I should be good.

The neighbor kids were having a snowball fight and I was strangely tempted to run over and join in...  you don't think that would freak the kids out, do you?  Their strange new neighbor lady throwing snowballs at them?  Well, I decided to opt out this time.  Here's a peak of our snowy backyard with the previous owners bird "apartment building" sticking out of the snow, and there's the front bumper of our van...  we definitely need to build a garage someday!

I have a brief shipping announcement for the folks that have made purchases in the shop over the past few days-- I didn't get a mail pick up on Saturday or today...  so, things may be a bit delayed due to the lovely weather.  Just fyi.

Hope you are safe and warm where you are!

More Lonny Love... And A Personal Shout Out

Great issue of Lonny this morning.  Great.  I must have read through it three times already, catching something that I didn't spot the time before...  On my third viewing, I even spotted a few items from my shop in the apartment of Victoria Thompson (sister to Antonia, whose apartment was also featured this month... both pictured above)!  What a thrill to see my vintage finds in print!  With links, no less!

(vintage silver serving tray from High Street Market!)

(vintage brass apple from High Street Market!)

(large clear glass hobnail round platter from High Street Market!)

(vintage brass horse head letter opener from High Street Market!)

There are so many inspiring images from this month's issue...  but, I have to give a shout out to my peeps at Burnham Design!  Not only was the BD office featured (yes, the office really is that beautiful on a regular basis), but a project that I worked on while I was with BD was also featured!  What a treat.  The house looks amazing...  check it out yourself on pages 117-131.

The team at Burnham Design-- Betsy, Max, and Alyssa...

The beautiful BD office...

And, one of my former Burnham Design projects... Congratulations BD!

And, last but not least...  look who made the Blog Roll!
