One Week!

Mad Men is back in one week from today!  Dave and I are obviously HUGE fans of this vintage-inspired drama, and we're proud to have provided the prop department with a few products over the years.  The above clip is all about Betty, one of my very favorite (and I think, misunderstood) characters.

Season 5 premieres on Sunday, March 25th with a 2-hour episode.  High Street Market will be celebrating in it's own way this week-- so, stay tuned!

The Jet Set House

Do you guys read the website, Curbed?  It's a site that focuses on real estate... with a celebrity/interior design twist.   It's great.   Highly recommend it for the factual, yet sensational articles.   This week, they posted a bit of interesting news.   If you're a Mad Men fan (and I most certainly am), you might remember that amazing mid-century gem of a house in Season 2.   The episode was appropriately called "The Jet Set".   Remember?   Don travels to LA, goes off the rails and escapes with those gypsies?   They stay at this STUNNER of a home and the scene appears to be taken right out of a Slim Aarons photograph...

Anyway, that place is for sale. And, if you have a cool $12 million to spare, it might be a great investment for you:

This home has some serious Hollywood history:

"The Fox Residence in Chatsworth is up for sale. The 1951 Pereira & Luckman house has an incredibly star-studded history from its early days all the way to today. It was built for Chase Manhattan Bank heiress Dora Hutchinson, who, according to Forbes, threw "massive who’s who parties for Hollywood, hosting the A-list likes of Lucille Ball and Ava Gardner, and shooting off fireworks to signal Happy Hour to her neighbors." The listing says that Judy Garland and Vicente Minnelli were married on the property. After Hutchinson moved to New York, she rented the Fox (also known as the Farralone) to Frank Sinatra for almost a decade, who in turn sublet the guesthouse (which has its own pool) to Marilyn Monroe. She had her last, famous photoshoot in one of the pools and supposedly spent time there with John F. Kennedy. More recently, it made Mad Men viewers drool playing a Palm Springs house in the episode "The Jet Set." Dreamgirls, Ali, and Californication also filmed there."

What a remarkable life this house has lived!  And, this gorgeous piece of architectural history also EARNS money.  It brings in about $2 million a year in filming fees.

And, I'd say it's worth it. Talk about picturesque.

Golden Globes 2011

For the first time in YEARS, I watched a red carpet show.  And I have to say, it was very very fun.  I loved all the gowns!  My hands down favorite was Emma Stone's simplistic, backless, Calvin Klein gown in the most lovely shade of pink.

Loved her hair, loved her low-key (almost non-existent) jewelry, loved her make up,

and I loved that awesome gold clutch.

And, there was more pink on the red carpet...

Coincidentally, the Pantone Color of 2011 is Honeysuckle...  PINK. 

Correlation?  Probably not.  But, I had to bring interior design somewhere into the conversation.

I normally don't get into award shows, but I had a lot of fun watching the Golden Globes last night.  My favorite show, Mad Men, did not win for Best Drama.  Very sad.  But, the ladies of Mad Men looked lovely...

I was also pulling for my favorite movie of the year, The Fighter.  I LOVED this gritty boxing movie.  Just loved it.  Christian Bale won for Best Supporting Actor and if you've seen the movie, you know that he totally deserved it.  These two lovely ladies were both nomiated for their roles in The Fighter...

Mad Men, Behind The Scenes

I'm a huge crazy fan of the show Mad Men on AMC.  But, I have to confess, I didn't really start watching it until this year.  (During Season 1, I caught one perverted episode and it didn't really inspire me to keep watching-- for Mad Men fans, it was the episode with the twins, where Roger has a heart attack).  However, things changed this summer.  My husband and I decided to start watching, but we would start at the very beginning.  We rented Season 1, and bought Seasons 2 & 3.  Now, I am proud to say that I have seen every single episode. 

I love this show. Love. Love. Love. It.  Yes, it's extremely dark and at times depressing... but all that complex office drama, mixed with 60's up-dos and mid-century modern furniture, gets me excited.  So, are you watching?   The Season 4 Finale is tonight and while I can't wait to see what happens (!!!), part of me is heartbroken that it's over (until next season!).  So, indulge me will you?  These 'behind the scenes' shots were taken for the September issue of Rolling Stone Magazine.  I think that they're terrific.

Emmy Night 2010

I normally don't pay much attention to award shows, but last night at the Emmy Awards, my two FAVES won for Best Drama and Best Comedy series: Mad Men and Modern Family.  I couldn't have been happier to hear the news.  These shows are really great...

(I love this show so much. The sets and costumes alone are enough to make me watch)

Modern Family

(This show makes me laugh out loud every week! Can't wait for the new season to start!)
