I want a Louis Vuitton bag. And, since I have decided that, "yes, it's time for me to have one" I feel like I am seeing Louis everywhere. This is the bag I want:
Last week, I stopped by a new "flea market" outside of Philadelphia. I use the term flea market loosely because it was less antiques and more imported knock-offs from China. Like Canal Street, but set out in the country. Anyway, I saw a decent looking FAKE Louis bag and, while extremely tempted, I just couldn't sink so low. Maybe ten years ago I would have bought it. But not now.
not my photo, i found this via google
Do you own a good fake? Or, do you splurge for the real deal?

I agree, 10 years ago, fake was ok... there was an excuse - lack of income and knowledge! But now, what good is a fake? You know it's fake - isn't that all that matters? I can't wait to have the real thing but for now I have a nice Brooks Brothers handbag - it was a lot less than a designer bag but the quality is amazing and everyone comments on it. Quality over quantity is the way to go these days! If you buy a true Louis in a classic style, you can take that bag to the grave with you! It will never go out of style! Happy buying!
Ever since I interned at a lux handbag company and discovered all the wonderful artists who work so dang hard, just no, I can't.
i have a real speedy that i bought myself several years ago. I love it - actually the best handbag I have ever owned. my brother in law who lived in hong kong used to bring back all kind of fake LV and most of the time...it was hard to tell what was real and what wasn't. if you know the right person in HK, you can get a fake LV that is 100% on the money.
I have an a fake LV from Ebay that I bought years ago when I didn't know any better. It is literally falling apart at the seams. The real Batignolles Horizontal I've had for four years doesn't look a day over 6 months old :) It literally is the most durable, well-made handbag I've ever owned. That being said, I probably won't buy a logo LV again, but they sure do make a wonderful bag! I do love that Neverful!
Fake bags are just not an option!!
Pretty post. My husband has given me a couple. I like the Speedy 30 because it's a great all-around bag. I have a large Noe that gets kind of heavy and has natural leather on the bottom so I'm afraid to set it down.
That's another way to spot a fake: feet.
I have that same Bag in the Damier print. As well as a Speedy. The real thing is the way to go, the craftsman ship is to die for. You will have one of these bags for ever....I already dread the day my 'maybe-future; daughter tries to borrow it! I would totally save and go for it!

The Louis Vuitton trunks are just unbelievable-- a girl can dream right? =)
As far as fakes go, I had a few when the craze first started. Then I did some research-- profits from fake bags go towards terrorism and support child labor, never mind how much they hurt the real companies. No thank you!
6 or 7 years ago i had a few fakes. but i just couldn't carry them without feeling guilty. so now i have one real one - and it'll last forever
I have a Miu Miu bag and it's so gorgeous, after a year+ even in the crazy east coast weather with some leather conditioner the bag looks brand new and feels buttery soft. There really is no comparison and a good LV bag never goes out of style!
Please don't buy a fake. Knock off furniture is okay, but just say no to a knock off Louis. There is nothing like the real thing. I have a couple passed down from my mom.
I have a speedy I really want to sell.. it's the smaller size, I forget the number.
I have to say, I have been struggling over how I feel about Louis Vuitton handbags for quite some time now. The brand seems to be losing a bit of its authenticity. I see too many women walking down the street in Juicy Couture tracksuits, with fake Louis Vuitton bags and Chanel sunglasses. Of course, every piece you own is characterized by how you wear it, but the Louis Vuitton logo has become a bit too aggressive for my taste. Too many women use the handbag as a status symbol, something that doesn't seem your style at least from your blogposts :) If you are looking for a luxury French handbag with a bit more subtlety to it, I have been craving a Goyard bag. Hope this helps!
People have a lot to say about the Louis Vuitton issue! Thanks for all of your comments!
To clarify, I am NOT buying a fake bag. Not even sure if I will buy this bag in particular, but I do like it all the same. There is something simple and pretty about it... plus, I like the idea of using it at client meetings to carry fabric, etc.
The real handbag I carry is a leather Michael Kors bag (a GIANT tote). It's great, and will last forever.
Ms Blossom- LOVE Goyard bags. That should be another blog post. :)

I got my first LV bag when I was 18 and a freshman in college--a small Pochette bag. It was about $230, a MAJOR investment at the time!! I got a larger bag that was about $600 at the time a few years later as a gift from my parents for getting a 4.0 in every class (if you knew how much I hated to study you'd know this was a big accomplishment!); the name escapes me now. They are indeed wonderful bags...I don't carry mine as much now and they are in storage with a number of my other bags I want to keep. Now that I have an 18-month-old and two stepsons I carry a huge "feed sack" (as my husband calls it) tote bag by Marimekko, but I do intend to bring the LV back out eventually, because it's a CLASSIC! I'm in your corner to get one :)
Okay, this a topic (one of the few!) that I can speak on with some authority! Although LV bags are certainly timeless and gorgeous, I agree with a few other commenters that they have been fauxed to death. Also, their sales clerks tend to be grade-A jerks.
Gucci has recently come out with a material that rivals LV in its indestructible-ness (is that a word?), and I find their designs more modern and (slightly) easier on the wallet.
Also, Kate Spade has some awesome new designs (not the gross black cube purse that every girl had 10 years ago) that are both classy and design-forward.
Have fun shopping! I'm so J!
I like Diva Styles comment on this one- I agree with her 100%
Get the real deal - not a fake. I was in Paris in 1997 and purchased a Louis from the flagship store and glad I did. It was $450 and I am sure now, it would be double or triple that. I want the Louis worn by the girl in the orange coat.
I go for real Kate Spades. I love her design and the quality is whats important to me.
Real is it. Can't do fake, anything.
I actually came across an authentic Louis Vuitton Trunk from1896 a few years ago. It was in good condition for it's age with the LV monogram, but I was so afraid it would get damaged with my two children and my dog that I sold it. It funded a trip to Disney for the family, but I always wonder if I should've kept it.
