A Guest Room in the Attic

I'm currently helping a Philadelphia client of mine furnish her attic bedroom, and it's turning into such a fun project.  One of the wonderful things about living on the east coast is that we have these fabulous attic spaces!  They feel like hidden retreats with little nooks and crannies, sloped ceilings, and exposed beams.  And the views from the third floor are really fun (it feels like you're looking out of a tree house).  Of course, they're ideal for children (what little one wouldn't LOVE hiding out up there?)...  but, attic spaces can also make incredibly chic rooms too.  My client will be using her space as a guest room (as well as a small workspace/retreat for her husband). We're looking at comfy wing chairs, and masculine desks, simple bedding, and lots of layers...  I'm looking forward to seeing the finished result.

In the meantime, here are some of my favorite attic bedroom spaces for inspiration.  So simple, yet so cozy.  Your guests may never leave...

  3. All of these are so sweet. I especially love the one owned by the JCrew menswear designer (can't remember his name but I love his home).

  4. I could enjoy of the rooms you posted. I was just in a client's 3rd floor yesterday talking about how much her tween girls love their 3rd floor bedrooms with sloping ceilings, charming nooks and parents who aren't commenting about their messy rooms all the time :)

  7. For me, the fourth photo was the most fascinating. I like how bright and cozy it looks! You could really feel the glowing aura of the place. The natural light that comes from the skylights provide the attic room a very refreshing touch. I could imagine myself staying there during my rest day.
