I love a good skinny stripe.
It's a great way to bring a new level of interest to a space-- without using a printed fabric. Skinny stripes are tailored, a bit masculine, and will never go out of style. I like to use this classic stripe on upholstered chairs (it then makes a great backdrop for a printed pillow), drapery, accent pillows, or even wallpaper!
If I'm trying to create a "layered" look--where it appears that the room evolved over time--a good stripe is an essential component.
Here are a few of my go-to fabrics:
The "Jake Stripe" from Perennials is perfect for so many applications, and it comes in a hundred colors (not really, but there are a lot of options).
it's actually an outdoor fabric, but nobody would know the difference!
This Duralee pinstripe is awesome.
It's a little bit more of a wideset pinstripe (about 3 inches apart), so it's perfect for upholstery.
Great heavyweight fabric. I love it.
This Barclay Butera (for Kravet) "Bordered" stripe is so completely terrific for throw pillows.
It comes in the most beautiful gold and ivory... it's great.
Another wonderful option. This one is from Lee Jofa.
It's a great heavy weight cotton, with pinstripes only 1 inch apart. Would love to see this on a sofa!
And finally, a whimsical take on the skinny stripe.
This fabric is from Alan Campbell, and it's called "Soho." It comes in lots of punchy color combos.
(please forgive my poor scanner)
Happy Monday, chickens.

Love the stripes. Wonderful inspirations!

Love.
ReplyDeleteMy plans to recover a pair of drum shades in navy ticking have been thwarted by a lack of the fabric locally--which is weird, since I think of it as just about THE most common fabric--and I'm being stubborn about ordering online. Was just about to go with a small buffalo check instead, but this may convince me to stick to my guns!
My preppy heart loves the skinny stripe!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteI love stripes. Preppy and casual. Always makes me think of Ralph Lauren. xoxo
I just posted about this 2 weeks ago because I want to reupholster a chair in my living room. Thank you for all the inpirational pictures. You have my mind racing!
ReplyDeleteThe bolster pillow on the chaise! Too good!
ReplyDeleteNice post - I love the crisp preppiness of skinny stripes, mattress ticking et al. It's so American, and so timeless, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI love your photos! My living room could use a spruce up. I'm thinking I need more stripes in my life.
