Before & After: Sunburst Mirror

Thank you for the emails and comments about my faux bamboo dresser!  So many people emailed me and asked about the mirror, I thought I should post about it.  And let me tell ya, it was a cheap DIY.

I wanted a mirror that looked like this beauty from Mecox Gardens.

But, buying a $500 mirror was not on the priority list.  So, I bought this mirror at Pier 1 Imports for fifty dollars.   Here is what it looked like when I brought it home...

With a coat of metallic champagne paint, it looked almost as good as the Mecox Gardens mirror...

I did this project back in April, and now I cannot find the tube of paint that I used.  If you want to recreate this project, use a basic acrylic (metallic) craft paint.  I purchased mine at Michaels.

  4. Thanks! I used a basic acrylic craft paint... and I'm sorry, but I cannot remember which brand! It's a basic metallic paint that you can get at your local craft store, and I painted it on with a small brush. Super easy. :)

  6. Did you just paint one layer over the entire surface? or, did you selectively paint? Wonderful job!

  7. Just a layer of paint over the entire surface (enough to cover the "yellow-rust-sponge-paint" finish that it came with. Super simple!

  9. That mirror looks wonderful! I remember seeing at Pier One and thinking the finish wasn't right. I don't know why I didn't just think to paint it.

  12. I too am going to copy that mirror and find a place for it no matter what! I also have a mirror I want to refinish in my powder room. I need it to be silver, not too shiny, but not dull. Do you have any experience with the metallic silver paint from Michaels? Any advice would be awesome. Thanks!
