Love that inky inky blue wall.  With crisp white trim.
And, the pinstripe.  Love that pinstripe.

Customer Entry

In lieu of a regular blog post, I wanted to share the lovely entry table of High Street Market customer, Crissi White.

Doesn't the vintage green lamp look right at home here?!!  What a beautiful entry table!  Love the black lampshade, love the mirror, love the porcelain dogs...  and love the Moravian Star pendant (spotted in the mirror's reflection)!!  Nice work, Crissi!

Happy Monday, everyone!

Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor, 1932-2011

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Cleopatra, and Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? are all on my "must watch" list this month.  While we will surely remember Elizabeth Taylor as a beautiful Hollywood legend (or at least we will remember her string of marriages), I will always remember her as Velvet Brown from National Velvet.  My mother showed us this movie when my sister and I were tiny little girls.  We both loved it.

of course, we adored Mickey Rooney too.  How could you not?

Elizabeth Taylor and "Pie"

Starring in the film at age 12, young Elizabeth Taylor played a role that little girls dream about: she saves a horse and trains it to run in the Grand National.  When the jockey backs out at the last minute, Taylor disguises herself as a male jockey and rides the horse to victory.  Yay!  I loved this movie and if you have little girls, I encourage you to watch it with them.  Thanks, Mom, for showing it to us.

To read what Hollywood is saying about Elizabeth Taylor's life, read this tribute from The Hollywood Reporter.

A few of my favorites included...

"Our loss in the motion picture business with Elizabeth Taylor's passing is momentous. She was a lady who gave of herself to everyone. I know I consider it a great personal loss."
-Mickey Rooney
"It was a long productive career and she was the most glamorous and sexual star of our generation.  No one else could equal Elizabeth’s beauty and sexuality.  Women liked her and men adored her and her love for her children is enduring.  She was a symbol of stardom.  Her legacy will last."
- Debbie Reynolds
"Elizabeth Taylor was a dear friend. I knew her from our days together at MGM when she was just a teenager, and I watched her grow into one of Hollywood's finest actresses. She was passionate - and compassionate - about everything in her life, including her family, her friends, and especially the victims of AIDS. She was truly a legend and we will miss her."
-Nancy Reagan

A Portrait's Worth A Thousand Words!

The new issue of Rue Magazine was released this week, and one of my favorite images included this fabulous bathroom...

Love the wallpaper, the shiny fixtures, the monogrammed towels... and, that portrait in the window??!  I love it.  It's completely unexpected-- an antique portrait in the bathroom?  But, then it's placed over the window.  It creates privacy, I guess.  And, I think it's sort of great.  What do you think?

All this talk about antique portraits caused me to reivist my inspiration files...  Our bed & breakfast in Savannah was filled with antique portraits.  But, they were placed in more traditional locations...

like over a fireplace...

or, above a bed.

An antique portrait brings a great feeling of history to a space.  Do you agree?  I love the old ornate frames, the dark patina of the canvas, and the overall sense of "formality."  And obviously, I'm drawn to this look because I found a whole bunch of rooms in my inspiration files with a portrait motif...

I wish we had a fancy portrait in our family, something that was passed down through the generations.  But alas, my family does not possess such treasures (we come from European immigrants who settled in the United States in the early 20th century-- I guess stashing a portrait with your carry-on was out of the question).  But, I would like to own one someday.

What about you, do you own any fancy portraits?

Welcome Spring!

Spring has officially started, hooray!  And to celebrate this grand occassion, we have a new line of pillows in the shop...

made from a vintage Chinoiserie silk, and backed with an ivory linen, this pillow is an ample 15" x 18" and comes with a down insert.  As usual, these guys are in limited quantity (I only have 4), so once they're gone, they're gone!

Isn't it cheerful?  Perfect for your favorite chair.

In other news, I ran up to New York City this weekend to visit with one of my dearest friends.  On Saturday night, we went to see the documentary Bill Cunningham New York at the Film Forum.  It was FABULOUS and so wonderfully produced.  I highly recommend it.  I think I smiled through the whole thing.  Bill Cunningham is truly a remarkable person.  We need more Bill Cunninghams in the world.

Happy Spring, lovelies!!!

Happy Shopping With EmersonMade!

Last week, we all swooned over the idyllic home of Ryan & Emerson Fry, creators of the unstoppable clothing brand EmersonMade.  And, if you haven't paid their store a visit yet, run on over.  I spent the entire afternoon shopping for my perfect Spring wardrobe.  And, I want EVERYTHING in the shop.  Really.  EmersonMade is preppy, timeless and feminine... a little bohemian... a little kooky... mixed with fabulous statement peices (like their trademark flower pins).  This store rocks.  And to top it all off?  Emerson herself is the top model.  Talented, beautiful, and living in a gorgeous country home... this girl's got it all. :)

Emerson, fitting a model in the EmersonMade studio

at the top of my wishlist: the Black & Cream Tuxedo jacket

Must have this Navy Dot Scallop Skirt...  and this Red Robin Dress

I'm loving these coin necklaces, new for spring.  My favorite is the Little Lucky Clover... it reads "I make my own! (Luck that is.)".  And, don't even get me started on the blouse.  The Little Blouse has accordian pleats around the neck (and this print reminds me of one of my favorite fabrics, Les Touches).

How I want this belt.  This equestrian-inspired leather belt fastens with a brass post.

And, these jeans!  The EmersonMade Lowriders are perfectly tailored with their square front pockets and gold stitching.

Follow the adventures of EmersonMade on their blog, and visit their shop HERE!

Happy Shopping!
