Wall To Wall Seagrass

Wall to wall carpeting is not usually my first choice when designing a home.  However, there are places where wall to wall is a total necessity, and in those situations I always gravitate toward wool.  You'll never regret a wool carpet.

But, have you ever considered wall to wall seagrass?  I've seen it in retail spaces where it knocks my socks off, but I've never specified it for a residential space.  Fellow blogger, Lauren Liess is a big fan.  She put it in her home and raved about the results.  These pictures inspire me to include wall to wall seagrass in some future design projects.  So gorgeous!  What do you think?

Croft House

One of my Philadelphia design clients recently introduced me to a store called Croft House.  Based in Los Angeles, Croft House is a retailer that carries fantastic modern furnishings with a rustic edge.  They design and produce their own furniture using sustainable materials, they'll ship their products across the country, and they'll even customize certain pieces depending on your needs.  I love their modern style and fabulous prices.

Here are some of the Croft House pieces that caught my eye...

And the rugs!  I love the rugs...

Layering Area Rugs

Last week, I wrote a post on the truly fantastic assortment of area rugs at Calypso St. Barth.  At the end of the post, I shared a designer tip: layer a smaller, more colorful rug over a larger neutral rug for a layered effect.  Not only will this bring more interest to the room, but it will let you switch out the color scheme whenever you want to change things up.

This is what I was talking about.  Layered rugs:

An easy little trick to keep things interesting in your home.

Calypso Rugs

One of my go-to resources for chic affordable area rugs is Calypso St. Barth.  They have a wonderful selection of pieces in warm neutrals and cool blues.  Plus, the sizes span from a tiny 2 x 3 to a whopping 11 x 18!  Seriously.  A fabulously chic 11 x 18 rug that you can order off the internet!  Where else can you do that?  I love this shop.

Here are my favorite rugs...

Designer tip: layer one of the colorful ikats (or geometric prints) over a larger neutral jute.  By layering a colorful 5 x 8 rug over something larger like a 9 x 12 neutral jute, you can create instant interest in your living room.  And all the color is concentrated on the smaller 5 x 8...  so, if you want to change the colors of your living room down the road, it's a simple switch of a 5 x 8 rug (rather than investing in another large 9 x 12).

Madeline Weinrib Atelier

I'm a huge fan of Madeline Weinrib rugs.  A total master in their industry, the rugs at Madeline Weinrib Atelier tend to set the trends that everyone else tries to copy.  Do you agree?  Whenever I'm in New York City, I try to make time to visit their fabulous showroom at ABC Carpet & Home...

a shot of the Madeline Weinrib Atelier, from a past summer visit.

I love the graphic patterns, unique color combinations, and luxurious wools that make up the collection.

Here are my absolute favorite, go-to patterns...
