Painted Doors!

I love the idea of painting your interior doors an interesting color... like grey, yellow, or black.

And, painting your front door a great color is MUST do.

Rainy Day Templates!

I am way beyond thrilled with the outcome of my blog facelift and I must give a major shout out to Ellie, the most FABULOUS web designer from Rainy Day Templates. I cannot recommend her enough. Working with her was a total breeze, and she could not be more accommodating.

If blog templates and all that web-design-crazy-talk makes you feel a little scared, PLEASE contact Ellie. She will make your blog magically turn into something beautiful in no time at all. And--bonus!--she is incredibly nice and easy to talk to (plus, she has a great sense of humor). When I saw the final result last night, I was giddy. (I even screamed. I know, it was a big deal). So, fellow bloggers, don't you deserve some of that happiness?

fineprint: She is not paying me to write this, she did not give me a discount, I am just THAT happy.

excuse the "press" posts that follow... I needed to create a decent link for my menu.

Facelift!

This blog is getting a facelift! I am so excited about it... Rainy Day Templates designed this fabulous layout and Ellie was SUCH a complete pleasure to work with. I couldn't be happier!

By the way, this awesome vase is on sale in the shop! I never actually use items that I am selling because I might get too attached, and then, well, the listing disappears from my shop. But, I couldn't resist "borrowing" it when I saw these flowers yesterday.

So pretty.

Love this picture.

This sweet outdoor set is on a MAJOR sale at Anthropologie. The table was $498.00, and is marked down to $99.95! It's only available in white. The chairs are on sale too... from $248.00 to $69.95(!) in either powder blue or white...

And with the table at 45" diameter, you could serve four friends!

You're welcome.

Make Your Own: Tea Time Tablescape

I love the idea of bringing your dining table outdoors to serve mid-afternoon drinks with friends... If you have the outdoor space this summer, why not try this? Bring your dining table and chairs outside, set your table with beautiful linens and actually use your grandmother's china! Even if you are serving cheese and crackers instead of caviar, make it special! Your guests will love it.

Make your own tablescape by mixing fancy traditional pieces (like silver serving sets) with eclectic accents (like a vintage table runner and mismatched tea cups). Here are some of my favorites...

Start by draping your table with a beautiful tablecloth. I like this one from Linen Me on Etsy... It makes a terrific backdrop.

Then, layer your white linen tablecloth with an interesting runner down the center of your table. Try an eclectic piece like this. It's actually a vintage scarf. How chic is that?

And, how about this art deco vintage tea set?

Martha Stewart's white porcelain cake stands (available at Macy's) will bring some height to your table. I love the low, square shapes... they're even better when stacked with treats.

I'm a big fan of Pottery Barn's Linen Hemstitch Napkins. Use a bright color, like tangerine!

Try these fantastic silver napkin rings from Michael Aram... I love their shape, and that finial is sort of unexpected...

Bring refreshments to the table with this beautiful woven tray...

Serve bellinis from these sweet vintage glasses!

There are quite a few items available in the shop that would make beautiful accents to your tabletop... Here are a few of my favorites!

Vintage hobnail cake platter

Glass bowl with silver serving set

Mini ice bucket

Glass serving dish with silver plated filigree holder

Set of 4 vintage dessert plates

Thom's Lake House

As promised, here are the pretty pictures from Thom Filicia's lake house! The 1930s 3 bedroom lake front bungalow comes with a 2 bedroom guest house and is located in Skaneateles, New York. Thom says that while he loves his apartment in New York, he cherishes his time in the country. Read the brief interview, featured in the Chicago Tribune, HERE. It also mentions a furniture line due this Fall!

Here are some more pretty pictures from Thom's book...

Sweet!

Eddie Ross has an EASY recipe for Summer Sangria in the July issue of Country Living! Must try this cocktail this weekend...

Delightful, no?

*UPDATE: Eddie says to use 1 bottle of wine for every 3 cans of Fresca!
