A Portrait's Worth A Thousand Words!

The new issue of Rue Magazine was released this week, and one of my favorite images included this fabulous bathroom...

Love the wallpaper, the shiny fixtures, the monogrammed towels... and, that portrait in the window??!  I love it.  It's completely unexpected-- an antique portrait in the bathroom?  But, then it's placed over the window.  It creates privacy, I guess.  And, I think it's sort of great.  What do you think?

All this talk about antique portraits caused me to reivist my inspiration files...  Our bed & breakfast in Savannah was filled with antique portraits.  But, they were placed in more traditional locations...

like over a fireplace...

or, above a bed.

An antique portrait brings a great feeling of history to a space.  Do you agree?  I love the old ornate frames, the dark patina of the canvas, and the overall sense of "formality."  And obviously, I'm drawn to this look because I found a whole bunch of rooms in my inspiration files with a portrait motif...

I wish we had a fancy portrait in our family, something that was passed down through the generations.  But alas, my family does not possess such treasures (we come from European immigrants who settled in the United States in the early 20th century-- I guess stashing a portrait with your carry-on was out of the question).  But, I would like to own one someday.

What about you, do you own any fancy portraits?

The New Rue!

The third issue of Rue Magazine was released today!  It's a welcome bit of inspiration, since we are completely snowed in here in Philadelphia.  I wanted to get downtown today to pick up some fabrics and for the second day in a row, I've had to cancel my plans.  The Design Center is closed.  But, I'll try again tomorrow!

So, let's take a snow day and enjoy these inspiring spaces, shall we?

Read the new issue HERE!

And, have a Happy Thursday!

Sea Foam Green

After seeing these images from the newest issue of Rue Magazine (in the New York City home of Katie Ermilio), I'm starting the rethink the color, "sea foam green".  Yes, it once was a color that made designers cringe.  But, not me.

Paired with ivory and ballet pink, this 1950s color scheme is pretty great.

Domicile ID

The second issue of Rue Magazine was released on Monday, and the Rue girls really knocked it out of the park with this one.  Like the last issue, the Gift Guides are killer good (I mean it.  So good.  I'll have to post about them later next week), and the entire issue is just shy of 300 pages!

But, hands down, my favorite feature was this Orange County home designed by the Domicile ID team, Amanda Malson and Jolene Ballard.  (As a girl with roots in Orange County, I couldn't be more proud!)

The exceptional use of color (those pink drapes!) and the mix of high & low-end pieces make this space seem effortlessly chic.  This living room in particular is sophisticated yet welcoming... and to me, it feels really retro.  In a modern way.  I love it.

love the vintage pair of brass partridges.

can you believe that those side tables are a Craigslist find?  The girls painted them gold!

the white desk is actually an Ikea dining table!
The desk chair is a vintage find, reupholstered in that fabulous velvet.
And I love the upholstered parsons stool with yellow piping.

lovely lucite desk tray.

love the natural linen drapes against that navy wall!

Rue Magazine's Premiere Issue

I should have posted about the Premiere Issue of Rue Magazine last week, but I ran out of town and didn't have time to post!  So, without further ado... here are my favorite images from Rue!

I love love LOVE this trend: old school florals with black backgrounds... It's so glamorous, don't you think?  This spread reminds me of this pillow, made from vintage fabric, that I have in the shop (there are only 2 left, in case you decide you have to have it!).

Fabulous color inspiration: camel, red, and leopard print.  Perfect for Fall.

I'm in love with this chair: a black frame with black upholstery.  It's so SO chic (and that Chanel bag doesn't hurt either).

I'm intrigued by the rustic farmhouse table matched with the modern Saarinen chairs.  It looks terrific, don't you think?  And that bold black wall!

High Street Market in Rue Magazine!

Did you guys see the Premiere Issue of Rue Magazine today?  It's really fabulous, you must read it.  The creative minds behind the new shelter magazine (Crystal, Anne, Alaina, and Caitlin) did a great job.  Read the first issue HERE.

And, I am pleased to say that some items from my vintage shop were featured in the spread!!!  Check out Toni Hacker and Ben Harnett's apartment, and you might see these impala bookends!  They look so chic!

And, did you see the fabulous brass daschund in Victoria Smith's San Francisco bungalow?

And, in Crystal's apartment, I spotted a vintage hour glass from High Street Market...

and, my favorite snow leopard pillow!!

I'm so proud.  Thank you, Rue!  I am currently pulling my favorite images from the magazine and will post some highlights later!
