Grey is the New Black

The throw pillows we carry at High Street Market are completely custom made.  So, when these pleated beauties came back from our fabricator last week, I screamed a little in excitement.  :)  They're gorgeous.  Available in either grey or charcoal, our new Pleated Pillow is a wool/poly blend (with down insert included) and features the most fantastically tailored pleats.  The two shades of grey are really good (think prep school uniform or men's suiting), and the colors complement just about every color scheme.  I absolutely love the subtle texture these pillows bring to a room. The pleats are so classic, this pillow goes in modern spaces just as easily as it highlights traditional interiors.  LOVE this new addition to the store.

just a little close up shot (love that detail!)

We currently have two sizes in stock: a 15" x 20" lumbar, and the classic throw 19" x 19".

Client Project Sneak Peek

Happy Friday!  Today, I thought I would share a sneak peek at one of my Philadelphia design projects.  We recently installed 6 custom drapery panels to frame the floor to ceiling city windows, and just last week, the custom pillows were delivered.  Things are starting to come together, so I snapped a few photos.  The color scheme in this living room involves a combination of neutrals and textures, navy blue linen, and a pop of the most perfect shade of raspberry-- in the photos, it looks red, but I assure you it's raspberry.  :)

Happy Weekend!

John Robshaw for Duralee

John Robshaw has created a new and unique collection of fabrics for Duralee and I'm OBSESSED.  Every single print is perfectly bohemian while still feeling super sophisticated.  I want everything in this chic collection.  See for yourself...

Some of my favorites...

I love this print so much, we're using it in a client's Philadelphia home.  Here's a snapshot of the fabric combination that we're using:

NEW products in the store!

Yesterday, we added a few new products to the store...

All of us at High Street Market LOVE these Large Wishbones!  They're a fun accent to any tabletop.  Available in either silver or gold.

Our new White Ceramic Bamboo Vases just arrived this week.  We designed them ourselves, and worked with a local craftsman to make them for the store.  They're glazed in a stunning bone-white color and we love the bamboo detailing.  They're perfect for holding fresh blossoms this summer.  Or, keep one on the kitchen counter and fill it with kitchen utensils.

We've also brought in a few new pillows this season!  Like all of the pillows in our collection, these are completely custom made.  We use high-quality natural fabrics, and each pillow includes a down insert.  They're perfect for sprucing up your living room, bedroom, or home office...

Skinny stripes, big checks, block prints, and new florals...

Steal This Idea: Same Fabric, Different Colorways

Yesterday, I posted some images of Tom Dolby & Drew Frist's home (featured in Lonny Magazine last year).  It's really a cool place and everytime I look at the shots, I see something new.

Like these floor pillows in their living room:

Tom & Drew chose one of my favorite fabrics, "Betwixt" by Celerie Kemble.  But, instead of committing to one colorway, they went with two.  How unexpected and fun!

"betwixt" by Celerie Kemble for F. Schumacher.

I think that this concept works for the following reasons:
  • The fabrics compliment each other rather than compete.  And, I love how one side reads almost as a solid, featuring two similar shades of blue.
  • The print is simple.  Stick with a small, graphic, two-color print (rather than a crazy multi-colored fabric).
  • They're used in a large scale.  While I'm sure this concept would be great on small throw pillows, I just LOVE the impact it creates on larger floor pillows.  It might also be fun to try this concept on Euro shams (and dog beds too!).

Off the top of my head, I think that these fabrics would make for some fun combinations:

Lonny Magazine, July/Aug 2011!

The newest issue of Lonny Magazine is fantastic.  And it's HUGE, topping in at 287 pages!

Full of inspiring interiors, new products, and even a trip to Vienna, the new issue of Lonny does not disappoint.  But, my favorite page is page no.196 where the High Street Market "snow leopard" pillow was chosen to "Get The Look!"

(In addition to the snow leopard pillow, another High Street Market find made the cut: a vintage set of red embroidered cocktail napkins!)

Thank you Lonny Magazine!

Pillows With Turkish Corners

I've really never been a big fan of box pillows.  Or, round pillows.  Or ball-shaped pillows (by the way, what is that about?).  Me?  I like to stick with a basic square pillow, typically with a knife edge or self welt.  Down insert, invisible zipper.  It's just what I like.

But, then I saw this image on My Notting Hill.

And, I like those pillows!

Then, I remembered that Martha Stewart's Kevin Sharkey had filled his apartment TO THE BRIM with these pinch-pleated box pillows... in the living room, in the office, in the bedroom.  All in velvet, I might add.

These pinch-pleated box pillows are made with "Turkish corners."  That is the correct terminology.  What do you think of them?  Would you upgrade from a traditional knife edge for a Turkish corner?
They look pretty great in a super modern space (like Kevin's apartment)...

Welcome Spring!

Spring has officially started, hooray!  And to celebrate this grand occassion, we have a new line of pillows in the shop...

made from a vintage Chinoiserie silk, and backed with an ivory linen, this pillow is an ample 15" x 18" and comes with a down insert.  As usual, these guys are in limited quantity (I only have 4), so once they're gone, they're gone!

Isn't it cheerful?  Perfect for your favorite chair.

In other news, I ran up to New York City this weekend to visit with one of my dearest friends.  On Saturday night, we went to see the documentary Bill Cunningham New York at the Film Forum.  It was FABULOUS and so wonderfully produced.  I highly recommend it.  I think I smiled through the whole thing.  Bill Cunningham is truly a remarkable person.  We need more Bill Cunninghams in the world.

Happy Spring, lovelies!!!
