Sexy In The South

The March 2011 issue of House Beautiful arrived in my mailbox this morning, and much to my delight, I opened up the magazine to this page...

This fabulous Southern home is a product of the design team at Tracery Interiors, a Southern-based design firm specializing in residential and hospitality design.  If you haven't checked out the Tracery portfolio yet, I strongly encourage you to do so-- it's full of great inspiration!

I love how each space is steeped in traditional design, yet it still feels so fresh and comfortable.  It's still a modern house.  And, I love all that bright white!

(carrera marble tiles, all the way to the ceiling!)

(this screen is drop dead gorgeous!)

Check out the Tracery website HERE, and for daily inspiration, read the Tracery BLOG!

Happy Thursday, darlings!

A Modern Mix In The Hollywood Hills

One of my favorite images from the recent issue of Lonny Magazine.  This sunlit photo makes me wish that summer would start tomorrow! Cooper, the sweet pup above, enjoying the California sunshine, lives in the fabulously decorated home of Hadi Halawani and Kevin Howells.  Designed by Trip Haensich, this home perched among the trees in the West Hollywood Hills is modern and bohemian all rolled into one.  And all that warn sunshine?  I'm jealous.

I love this bright white entry, flanked by white sqaure pots.

When drapery is done with an inverted pleat, like these, everything just looks cleaner, sleeker, and less fussy.

I love the fiddle leaf fig, and the blonde wood of the coffee table and chair-- it suits a California home.  Plus, it really brightens the space.

terraces that seem to run the entire width of the house!

and a cozy guest room gets a little bling with an orange Hermes blanket.

even a fire pit!

...

With lows at 13 degrees (last night), I think it might be time to plan a quick vacation...  to a warmer spot.  Has anoyone been to Savannah, Georgia?  We're considering a road trip there!  Let me know if you have any insight!  I'd love to hear!

Happy Weekend, everyone!

MWM Interior Design

love the unexpected orange dining chair, mixed with the gorgeous chinoiserie wallpaper

Massucco Warner Miller Interior Design is a company formed by three women: Julie Massucco, Melissa Warner, and Carrie Miller.  Based in San Francisco, the MWM design trio also have offices in Los Angeles and Seattle.  One of their recent San Francisco projects was featured in the premiere issue of the Australian online magazine, Ivy & Piper (and incidently, one of my favorites, Anna Spiro, was also featured this issue!).  I love the way MWM incorporates bold color and modern design within a traditional format.  The spaces feel completely polished without being too formal.  Sophisticated without feeling stuffy.  Every room feels fun, don't you think?

a classic pedestal sink with lucite legs(!) and a gold Asian-inspired mirror
(doesn't it look like my mirror?! here it is in our old townhouse)

love the coral drapery with the gold floral wall

pink tufted chairs with a rolled arm! a very unexpected twist on a classic piece.

wouldn't this vanity make the most beautiful desk? love the mirror too.

of course, I'm smitten with banquettes.

another fabulous mirror...

again, love that unexpected shot of color.
in this case, orange.  with a zebra bed skirt.

I encourage you to check out the MWM portfolio HERE...
and, of course, view the entire first issue of Australia's Ivy & Piper online magazine HERE!

Two Insanely Cool Teen Rooms

In the words of Rachel Zoe, I die.  Betsy Burnham, my friend and previous boss, has seriously outdone herself with the redesign of her two kids' rooms.  But really, nothing about these rooms screams KID.  They are creative, colorful, eclectic, and oh-so-layered...  maybe similar to a teenager's personality?  And, I am crazy jealous.  I never had a room that cool.  Union jack flags, menswear prints, chinoiserie, stripes... and lions and tigers and bears.  It's awesome.

Meet Carson.

And, this is Carson's insanley cool bedroom...

Her one-of-a-kind dresser was signed by Amanda Bynes...

And, this is Carson's equally awesome bathroom.  Classic tile and nickel plated bathroom fixtures, meet a python mirror (!!!) and modernly graphic wallpaper...  and that roman shade!

So, Carson's room is totally off-the-rails cool.  Are you ready for room number two?

Will is Carson's younger brother.  This is his bedroom...

This shot kills me.  It's so fabulous.

So, I'm speechless.

Knobs & Pulls at Anthropologie

I was shopping for cabinet hardware this weekend, and decided to check out Anthropologie.  It has been ages since I browsed their inventory (shopping for rugs), and I thought that a visit to the website was in order.  Well let me tell you, the knobs and pulls at Anthro right now are pretty great.  They still have their hippy-dippy regulars (knobs shaped like turtles and butterflies, giant pink ceramic roses, or painted ceramic knobs).  But these options seemed more grown up and oh so chic.

Here are my top picks!

Seriously, how amazing is this rope knob?  I love it.  It reminds me of something Thom might use in his lake house.

I love this knob, it's so versatile and would seamlessly blend with a myriad of styles.  Not too fancy, not too modern.  Just right.

So fabulous.  Like a piece of jewelry.  I would use this piece where you only need one decorative knob (less is more here, I think).

The awesome thing about this knob is that side profile!  I love it, it's like a little surprise.

A classic bone knob with black trim.  SO incredibly chic, yet it could still double in a space that is really bohemian.  I love this knob.

I love this fancy Victorian pull.  Wouldn't it look great on a modern, black, bathroom vanity?
